ShortKnights
1d roguelike action adventure originally created for the #lowrezjam 23
Play a (rather short) fresh graduate of Miskatonic University's Esoteric Inquiry Department sent out to investigate a strange cult in a remote village.
Slash, block and bleed your way through 3 floors of ever stranger enemies and find out what the evil cult leader is coercing his acolytes into?
Controls
Action | Controller | Keyboard |
move | D-pad | Arrow Keys |
attack / confirm | A / RT | D |
block / cancel | X / B / LT | S |
toggle music | M |
Left of the cutting room floor
I had to cut quite a few things to finish within the gamejam's deadline, some of which were
- alternate player characters
would have been nice to play the game as a Wizard or a Rogue... - more enemies
- curios
originally I wanted some of the map objects like the achemy tables and shelves be interactable - item system
in addition to the perks from the altars I wanted to add items like healing potions or cure poison - ranged attack for some of the melee enemies
I feel they are useless if they get stuck behind other mobs - intro/tutorial level
I hope players will get controls and mechanics anyways...

Music and SFX by leohpaz, inspired by games I like, mostly Dark Souls and maybe Darkest Dungeon.

this game is really fun, you should make a post-jam update, I bet it would be amazing!
Thank you, these comments make me want to come back to this project… right now work is taking it’s toll, but I do have a lot of ideas for improvements and hope to be able to implement some of them during the holiday season.
maybe it's jsut me but the in game text is hurting my eyes when I try to read it.
it's too... pixely for me to read. or I ould need to be further away from the screen.
controls seem to be space to attack, arrow keys to walk and down to enter door.
currently you just keep hitting stuff until either you or the enemy dies
The font’s readability is due to the severe resolution limit of 64x64, but I’m trying to improve readability if I ever continue this project.
Controls are detailed on the page, the game is best played using a controller, but keyboard works as well. Blocking and subsequently endurance management is rather important, and probably needed to reach the final boss.
